Snack time is not to be ignored in our house. Whether its the #afterschoolsnack or the mid day weekend snack, I like to play with different snack ideas. My latest snack comes in the form of these delectable Pizza Rolls with dip. Think savory cinnamon rolls, and you got exactly what this recipe is all about. The wonderfully gooey cheesiness with the zest of pepperoni pizza rolled up and served with a super easy red sauce for dipping.
I have included my thin crust pizza dough below the recipe. The recipe for the pizza rolls only needs half of the pizza dough recipe. So either half the pizza dough or double the pizza rolls. You can also use a store bought pizza dough – just make sure you are getting uncooked dough. The precooked pizza crusts are not going to work for this one.
As mentioned in the ingredients list – you can use mini pepperonis, if you can find them. If you can’t find them, then you can just quarter regular pepperonis. You could also make some with sausage or ham, if you wanted to change out the flavors. If you using sausage, definitely cook it before adding. I would suggest avoiding an vegetables as the moisture would impact the cooking of the pizza dough.
You will see in the recipe instruction that I give a pretty specific direction to use a serrated knife to cut the rolled up dough log into one inch pieces. If you use a regular chef’s knife to cut it, it will cause the whole thing to squeeze in and collapse on itself. The serrated knife allows the roll to maintain it’s shape.
