Carne Asada Pizza

Pizza is so frequently asked for in my house – but I can only do so much pepperoni pizza, personally. I like to try new flavor combos on my homemade pizza dough. Pizza is also really great way to re-purpose leftovers, especially meats. Sometimes I will even make just a little extra of the meat for one meal, so that I can use it for a pizza later in the week. That’s exactly what I did with the Carne Asada Pizza – I made a few extra pieces of carne asada when I was making my Simple Carne Asada Tacos so that I could turn it into pizza later in the week.

Whenever I post a pizza recipe, I like to include my favorite recipe for homemade pizza dough (you can see it at the bottom of the recipe card for this pizza). I know making dough is scary to some people, but this really is so simple. It takes just a few minutes to put together the dough and then it is just about letting the yeast do it’s work to rise and make pillowing delicious pizza dough. That said – you can totally us a store bought dough to roll out or you can buy the par cooked pizza crusts. Whatever works for you and your family on this pizza night.

Substitutes and Variations:

If you have left over ground beef taco meat – you can use that on this pizza for sure. You could also use leftover pollo asada or even some shredded rotisserie chicken. Just keep in mind that whatever meat you choose to put on this pizza should be fully cooked, as you are not baking it long enough to cook most meats thoroughly.

Suggestions for Sides:

With the beans on the crust – this pizza is rather filling. Even my son that can often eat an entire pizza on his own, cannot consume quite as much and he is not hungry in a couple hours. You are really getting more bang for your buck with this simple but hearty pizza. However, you are looking to stretch this pizza to serve it to a bigger crowd – a side a chips and pico is a great option. You could also always do a salad on the side.

Tools that may make this recipe easier:

You will need some pizza pans to make this pizza. I prefer the style that has the holes on the bottom. This makes sure that the bottom crust is cooked and crispy. You also want a nice sharp pizza wheel to cut all the way through this pizzas.
