What’s been going on at Homemade on a Weeknight?
At the encourage my dear friend and SPSS co-host Melynda, I took the leap to learn more about becoming a beekeeper. This is going to be our next endeavor on our homestead. I made a simple inquiry on a local beekeepers club Facebook page lead me (and my hubs) to be invited to the club president’s farm just a few miles away. He gave us an incredible private lesson on the basics of setting up a hive, inspecting the hives (who knew the frames covered in comb, honey and bees was sooo heavy!) and learn about what sort of wildflowers we need to get planted this fall. We are too late to start a hive this year, but with the proper planning we will be able to start in the spring. Oh and maybe the most fun of all – we got to try some homemade triple berry mead that was just delicious.

Our homeschooling friends just started raising bees last summer… unfortunately the week before they planned to harvest the honey a bear got into their hive! They’re trying again this year though and hope that the new spot they found on their property will work well. We made those smoked enchiladas last night for dinner. They were yummy!
This is seriously one of my biggest fears! But i think we found a good spot on the property that we will be able to safeguard from the bears.
That photo of the bacon cheeseburger sure looks yummy! Thanks for hosting this weekly party – we’re sharing #25 and #26 this week!
Thank you!
