Welcome to the Weekly Book Report and Book Review Link-up #11!
Every Wednesday I will be sharing my latest read – which could be a cookbook, a celebrity chef biography or memoir, a lifestyle book, a gardening book, a homemaking book or maybe even a cozy kitchen mystery book. They may be paper books, eBooks, or audio books. I have challenged myself to read or listen to at least one book per week, and I plan to share that with you all here.

In addition to my Book Report, there will be a Book Report LInky – a chance for all of you to share your own book review blog post (ONE per blog, please). We want to see what had you page flipping, can’t put it down, totally captivated.
Lastly will be a Featured post from the previous week’s shared posts. This will be a post picked at random by the host. Each host will likely pick their own feature – so that’s three chances to be featured!
If you have any suggestions for me on book I should check out – please let me know!
Title: The Hidden Vegetables Cookbook: 90 Tasty Recipes for Veggie-Averse Adults
Author: Heidi Herman
Publication Date: September 2025
Published by: Hekla Publishing
Listed Price: $24.99 (Paperback), $7.99 (Kindle)
About the Author:
Heidi Herman was born and raised in Central Illinois, but her passion and a common theme in her writing is her Icelandic heritage.
Her writing career started with the inspiration of her mother’s example. In the winter of 2012, her mother, Íeda Jónasdóttir Herman, published a childhood memoir, which featured some of Iceland’s folklore. Heidi was immersed in childhood memories of the Scandinavian legends, lore, and imaginative stories. The myth of Iceland’s troll-like Christmas characters – Jólasveinar – sparked the imagination of many readers and led to Heidi writing her first book, “The Legend of the Icelandic Yule Lads.” It was followed by two more books on Icelandic folklore: “The Guardians of Iceland and Other Icelandic Folk Tales” and “The Icelandic Yule Lads Mayhem at the North Pole.”
Brief Description of the book:
If you’ve ever wished you could eat healthier without choking down another forkful of kale or pretending to like Brussels sprouts, The Hidden Vegetables Cookbook is for you.
This isn’t your typical nutrition cookbook. It doesn’t try to convince you to fall in love with spinach or develop a taste for zucchini. Instead, it gives you a creative, practical way to get the benefits of vegetables without tasting them at all.
These recipes are smart, satisfying, and designed for real adults who know they should eat their veggies… but just don’t like them. Author Heidi Herman brings together 90 flavorful dishes that cleverly incorporate fresh vegetables in ways that blend, mask, and even overpower their taste so you get the nutrients without the struggle.
My Review:
Right away I was struck by the gorgeous colorful set up of the cookbook. I especially love that she takes the time to discuss how to pick, store and use all of the veggies that she shares recipes for. Sometimes that is my biggest problem when it comes to adding more veggies to our meals – I don’t know what a good one looks, feels and is supposed to taste, so I often skip it. Heidi has rescued me from this Foley. She also really digs into her viking and Icelandic heritage to give you the tools and the bravery to try these new dishes. Over all – this would make a really great addition to anyone’s ones cookbook collection, not just those that struggle to get enough veggies in!
