Place the chuck roast in the center of a 13x9 baking dish. Using the tip of a sharp paring knife, make ½-inch vertical cuts randomly across the top of the roast. Stuff each cut with a thin slice of garlic.
Combine salt, pepper, rosemary, thyme, and onion powder. Sprinkle of top and sides of chuck roast.
Evenly space out the butter pats over the top of the roast.
Place in oven and roast for 40 minutes. Use a meat thermometer to check that the roast has reached 140 deg internally. If not there let cook another 5 minutes and recheck.
Remove from oven and only a cutting board. Let rest at least 10 minutes before slicing to serve.
