Cast Iron Deep Dish Pizza

  • 8in cast iron skillet


  • ½ lb Ground Italian Sausage
  • 1 Pizza Dough store bought or recipe below
  • 3 tbsp Avocado Oil
  • 10-15 slices Pepperoni
  • 3 cups Mozzarella Cheese shredded
  • 1 cup Parmesan Cheese shredded

For the Sauce

  • 1 15oz can Crushed Tomatoes
  • ¼ cup Hot Honey
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tbsp Dried Minced Onion
  • 1 tsp Italian Seasoning
  • 1 tsp Fennel Seed


  • Preheat oven to 425degF.
  • In a frying pan over medium-high heat, add Italian sausage. Cook and crumble until no longer pink.
  • Combine sauce ingredients in a bowl.
  • Coat inside of cast iron skillet with oil. Place skillet over medium heat on stove. Add pizza dough, creating roughly one inch of over hang all the way around.
    Note* If using pizza dough recipe from below, only go as far as step 3. Then form into circle and add to skillet. If using store-bought pizza dough, do not pre cook, and shape into a circle.
  • Let cook for 3 minutes then start to build the pizza, still on heat. Start with 2 cups of mozzarella, spread evenly. Then sprinkle with parmesan cheese. Spoon sauce over top of cheese.
  • Layer on sausage and pepperoni. Sprinkle with remaining mozzarella cheese. Fold dough that was hanging over the edge of the skillet over top of pizza. Move to oven and bake for 15 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and let sit in skillet for 5 minutes. Run spatula around the edge of pizza then remove to a cutting board. Cut into 6 slices.
